MV Joyita

The vessel was found drifting and empty; an official inquiry is documented, but the fate of those aboard remains unknown.

01 / RECORD

What is documented

Contemporary reporting describes the inquiry opening, the discovery of Joyita without anyone aboard on 10 November 1955, and engine, cooling-system and radio faults found during inspection.

02 / ANALYSIS

What it explains

A former engineer told the inquiry that a corroded cooling-system pipe could have flooded the engine room. This was a witness hypothesis about flooding, not an established sequence of abandonment.

03 / LIMITS

What remains open

Reporting on the first week of hearings does not establish why people left the vessel or what happened to them. The library link is a catalogue record of the proceedings, not the full text.
